Vaccine Ontology (VO) Development Team
The Vaccine Ontology (VO) Development Team currently includes the following members:
- Lindsay Cowell, PhD, Assistant Professor, Duke University Medical Center; IDO initiative with Barry Smith; VO Initiative with Oliver He and Barry Smith.
Expertise: Infectious disease and ontology development.
VO Contribution: Close interaction with the Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO)
- Alexander Diehl, PhD, Senior Scientific Curator, The Jackson Laboratory; Scientific curation of Mouse Genome Informatics and Gene Ontology.
Expertise: Immunology and ontology development.
VO Contribution: interaction of VO with the Gene Ontology (GO).
- Yongqun "Oliver" He, DVM, PhD, Assistant Professor, University of Michigan Medical Center; VIOLIN project PI; VO initiative with Barry Smith and Lindsay Cowell, main contributor of first VO versions.
Expertise: Immunology, Brucella vaccine development, and ontology development.
VO Contribution: VO development coordination, vaccine domain expert, and VO web development and maintenance.
- Harry Mobley, PhD, Professor, University of Michigan Medical School.
Expertise: E. coli vaccine research and development, vaccine domain expert.
VO Contribution: Vaccine domain expert.
- Bjoern Peters, PhD, Assistant Professor, La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology; OBI, OBO.
Expertise: Epitope / immunology, ontology development.
VO Contribution: integration of VO into OBI and the epitope / immunology related modeling.
- Alan Ruttenberg, PhD, Science Commons; An active participant in W3C Semantic Web activities; a chair of the OWL Working Group specifying OWL 2; a coordinating editor of the OBO Foundry; OBI.
Expertise: OWL, Semantic Web, ontology development.
VO Contribution: technical support on VO development.
- Richard H. Scheuermann, PhD, Professor, University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center.
Expertise: Immunology, influenza virus research, ontology development.
VO Contribution: integration of VO into OBI and Influenza Ontology.
- Barry Smith, PhD, Professor, University at Buffalo; NCBO Co-PI; OBO; OBI; IDO initiative with Linday Cowell; VO Initiative with Oliver He and Lindsay Cowell.
Expertise: Ontology expert, creation of the BFO, the top level ontology of VO.
VO Contribution: Ontology expert development and dissemination.
- Allen Xiang, MS, Software developer and bioinformatician, University of Michigan Medical School; VIOLIN software developer and manager.
Expertise: Software development, database administration.
VO Contribution: VO-related software development such as the VO browser development, data parsing, VO-based literature mining tool development.
