Community Efforts

Vaccine Ontology: A community-based effort to develop the Vaccine Ontology (VO) for vaccine data standardization and automated reasoning. VO is being developed by collaboration with the National Center for Biomedical Ontology (NCBO) and the Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO) initiative.

09/16-17/2008: Oliver He will attend the Infectious Disease Ontology (IDO) 2008 workshop. Oliver will also present a talk on the progress of the Vaccine Ontology.
08/14/2008: Oliver He gave a speaker presentation in the Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI) conference "Novel Vaccines: Bridging Research, Development & Production". The title is "An Ontology-based Information Network to Support Vaccine Research".
07/19/2008: We presented the VIOLIN and Vaccine Ontology project in ISMB2008 and here is a PDF version.

Statistics: The VIOLIN vaccine database contains 268 vaccines or vaccine candidates for 20 pathogens by manual curation from 532 peer-reviewed papers. It also contains 24,345 vaccine-related abstracts and 10,317 full text documents.
