Additional Molecule Role Annotation The protective effects a pneumolysin mutant (DeltaA146 Ply) against pneumococcal infections in mice was evaluated. Vaccinated mice were challenged with pneumococcal strain D39 at 1,500 times the LD50 (1.5 x 105 CFU) and the vaccinated mice survived significantly longer than control mice after challenge (Wu et al., 2010).
